The Spotlight Series: Vania

Introducing Vania, one of our brilliant graphic designers and the star of the second installment of PNI Media’s Spotlight Series. Vania’s career has taken her from a role as a Visual Merchandiser in Mexico, to her current position as Graphic Designer here in Vancouver. With Spotlight we hope to celebrate the work Vania does for us and create a window into the roles available at PNI.

WHAT WAS YOUR CAREER/EDUCATION PATH BEFORE JOINING PNI?

I did a bachelor’s degree in graphic design back in Mexico and a diploma in digital design specializing in motion graphics at Vancouver Film School here in Vancouver. I also used to work as a Visual Merchandiser for La Mer, Jo Malone and Bobbi Brown.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I’m from Mexico City.

HOW HAS PNI HELPED YOU IN YOUR CAREER/PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT?

PNI was the first company to welcome me in Canada after I graduated from VFS. It opened great opportunities for me to improve as a professional in a different cultural setting and I recently got my PR through it. I’m so grateful for that!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF PNI'S COMPANY CULTURE?

PNI tries to keep people happy, always offering fun activities and good vibes.

MOST HILARIOUS PNI MOMENT?

In my first year at PNI, the company offered new fitness classes and I joined the spinning class. When I got to the room the only two people there were my boss (Vince Kwok) and I. It was a bit weird but definitely an icebreaker.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST INTERESTING JOB BEFORE PNI?

Back in Mexico I was a Visual Merchandiser for specialty brands. I used to get really good quality skincare products for free.

WHOSE FACE WOULD YOU PRINT ON A CUSTOM PHOTO MUG?

I would print the reminder “fill up your timesheet” next to our Director of Finance Matthew’s face.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE HOBBY OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I love to play tennis, watch sunsets and do calligraphy. I love when people ask me to write something special on cards, shirts, phone cases and even mugs.

WHAT'S YOUR GO-TO CATCHPHRASE?

Big time!
